Distance of Hi-GAL sources

نویسندگان

چکیده

Aims. Distances are key to determining the physical properties of sources. In Galaxy, large (> 10 000) homogeneous samples sources for which distance available, covering whole Galactic range, still missing. Here we present a catalog velocity and sample 100 Hi-GAL compact Methods. We developed fully automatic Python package extract determine distance. To assign source, code uses all available spectroscopic data complemented by morphological analysis. Once is determined, if no stellar or maser parallax known, kinematic calculated ambiguity (for located inside Solar circle) solved with H I self-absorption method from distance–extinction data. Results. Among 150 223 catalog, obtained 124 069 5 σ (and 128 351 3 catalog), where represents noise level each molecular spectrum used line detections made at produce respective catalogs.

Direct estimate of cirrus noise in Herschel Hi-GAL images*

In Herschel images of the Galactic plane and many star forming regions, a major factor limiting our ability to extract faint compact sources is cirrus confusion noise, operationally defined as the “statistical error to be expected in photometric measurements due to confusion in a background of fluctuating surface brightness”. The histogram of the flux densities of extracted sources shows a dist...

Clouds, filaments, and protostars: The Herschel Hi-GAL Milky Way *

We present the first results from the science demonstration phase for the Hi-GAL survey, the Herschel key-project that will map the inner Galactic Plane of the Milky Way in 5 bands. We outline our data reduction strategy and present some science highlights on the two observed 2◦ x 2◦ tiles approximately centered at l=30◦ and l=59◦. The two regions are extremely rich in intense and highly struct...

Data reduction pipeline for the Hi-GAL survey

We present the data reduction pipeline for the Herschel Infrared Galactic Plane survey (HiGAL). Hi-GAL is a key project of the Herschel satellite, which is mapping the inner part of the Galactic plane (|l| ≤ 70◦ and |b| ≤ 1◦), using two Photodetector Array Camera and Spectrometer (PACS) and three Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) frequency bands, from 70 to 500 μm. Our pipeline ...

2 HI Absorption in GPS / CSS Sources

Combining our own observations with data from the literature, we consider the incidence of H I absorption in Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) and Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) sources. Here we present our preliminary results, where we find that the smaller GPS sources (< 1 kpc) on average have larger H I column densities than the larger CSS sources (> 1 kpc). Both a spherical and an axi-symmetric...

Variations of the spectral index of dust emissivity from Hi-GAL observations of the Galactic plane*

Context. Variations in the dust emissivity are critical for gas mass determinations derived from far-infrared observations, but also for separating dust foreground emission from the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Hi-GAL observations allow us for the first time to study the dust emissivity variations in the inner regions of the Galactic plane at resolution below 1◦. Aims. We present maps of ...
